Local writer, spoken word poet, and book enthusiast, Kalista Peña grew up in Durango, CO, and attended Fort Lewis College earning her B.A. in English. She has always highlighted rhythm and flow in her poetry, utilizing rhyme and pacing to create tension in her performance. She is heavily inspired by African American authors and jazz musicians from the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s. Lately she has found herself writing about her Mexican heritage and vibrant culture.
