A new topic every month!
September's topic: The Purpose of Your Story: Why Are You Here?
How do writers discover the ultimate purpose of their story? What kind of conflict makes a character grow the most? At our monthly meeting of Writers & Scribblers, we'll be discussing techniques for creating the biggest emotional connection between a writer and their protagonist, and how to use that connection to answer one of the biggest questions of life: why are you here? We hope you can join us! :D
October's topic: Let's Talk About Me: The Hook of the Open Heart
An open heart is an excellent hook, but how do writers achieve that? Why do some characters grab us so quickly? At our workshop this month, we'll share tips and tricks to get your readers glued to the page. We hope you can join us!
W&S is a group for writers of all kinds to learn, practice, and share the art and craft of writing. We're based in Durango, Colorado.
The group is open to those interested in writing and the publishing process. Meetings are run by using a 'pass the torch' method; everyone is encouraged to participate, but it is not a requirement. Our main purpose is to try to help each other through the maze of things you must do as writers; from writing to editing and on to publishing and marketing your books, short stories, essays, or anything else. Discussion topics will vary and sometimes repeat depending upon the needs of the members at the time. Of course, we're also here to meet some interesting folks, learn, and have fun while doing so. Writers are invited to share what they're working on with everyone, but ‘selling from the podium’ is frowned upon.
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:15 p.m. at the Durango Public Library.
Overlooking the Animas River, the Durango Public Library and Botanical Gardens is one of the most popular gathering spots in our community.
