Join us for this captivating workshop!

"Poetry as Narrative: Telling a Story Through Verse" Poetry is often associated strictly with rhyming and meter, but its power extends far beyond those traditional structures. In this workshop, we will explore how poetry serves as a narrative medium, utilizing intentional language, vivid imagery, and prose-like elements to weave compelling stories. Participants will examine diverse examples of how poets use narration as a catalyst for storytelling, expanding the boundaries of the craft to create deeply resonant narrative works.

Crisosto Apache is originally from Mescalero, New Mexico, on the Mescalero Apache Reservation, and currently lives in the Denver metro area in Colorado. Crisosto is Mescalero Apache, Chiricahua Apache, and Diné (Navajo) of the 'Ásh??hí (Salt Clan) born for the Kinyaa'áanii (Towering House Clan). Crisosto is the current and 11th Poet Laureate for Colorado and an Associate Professor of English writing and Creative writing at the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. Apache holds an MFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Crisosto has written three poetry collections GENESIS, is(ness) and Ghostword, which was the winner of the 2023 Betty Berzon Emerging Writers Award and a finalist for the Colorado Authors League Award in poetry. Crisosto is a three-time Pushcart Prize nominee and is currently an editor-at-large for The Offing Magazine. Crisosto continues to advocate for the Native American Indigenous LGBTQ / Two-spirit identity. Apache's dedication to poetry remains a passion, and teaching poetry to the youth is a continued goal.
